Loughshinny Murder 1741

Site of the murder of Rev Anthony Tanner

As Rev Anthony Tanner was crossing this stile he was hit by a stone on the temple and felled. The boy who accompanied him ran off to get help and on his return with some neighbours found Mr Tanner lying senseless. His skull had been smashed in two places and his arm was broken. He died on Thursday 7th May 1741.
