The Flag Quarry

Before the present harbour was built there was a safe landing place for boats by the side of the rocks jutting out into the sea. It was from here that the flagstones from Loughshinny quarry were transported to build the causeway for the Poolbeg Lighthouse, which marks the southern entrance to Dublin Port. The flagstones were quarried by splitting the rocks on the foreshore of the north side of Loughshinny and were transported by sea to the Liffey.
